In this episode, I spoke with Eugene Volokh, the Gary T. Schwartz Distinguished Professor of Law at UCLA Law School. Professor Volokh obtained a B.S. at UCLA in math-computer science at age 15, and holds a J.D. from UCLA. After law school Professor Volokh clerked for Justice Sandra Day O’Connor on the Supreme Court, and for Judge Alex Kozinski on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He is also the founder and coauthor of the popular law blog, The Volokh Conspiracy. Professor Volokh is a leading expert on First Amendment law and authored the textbook The First Amendment and Related Statutes (6th ed. 2016). We discussed theories of the First Amendment, how our legal system protects free speech, and the 303 Creative case recently heard before the Supreme Court.
